January
This month was break and I took a much needed reset to re-focus on nurture my own practice. Zeerak has invited me into developing a daily artistic ritual and while I am not fully established in what this might look like for me yet, I have been thinking through how this can transform my practice. I am used to my work being in the spiritual or political space and part of this ritual practice will help me develop an artistic path that will inform my daily life. I really appreciate both of my advisors for their continued support of me and their insights into my project and process.
I will be joining the art residency in Kenya this month and I am excited to learn more from other artists and relate that to my own work. My intention for the residency is to experiment with a daily artistic ritual practice of filming dance movements and sharing it with my advisors. I want to start developing work without judgment and as experimentation to see what works and what doesn’t. Zeerak also recommended keeping a daily journal to reflect on my artistic practice that can then be an archive of a body of work I am creating.
